Tell Those Mosquitoes to Buzz Off!

It happens to all of us. You’re sitting outside, enjoying a lazy summer evening, when a familiar high-pitched noise assaults your ear. Almost simultaneously you feel a sting, which prompts an “ouch” and a quick slap in the offender’s general direction. They’re back and they’re determined to drive you inside.

Mosquitoes are pesky little insects than can wreak havoc on any outside plans. Not only can they transmit West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria and Dengue Fever but they also transmit heartworms to dogs and cats. Plus, they’re just downright annoying.

So what can you do to make your yard a no-mosquito zone? First, call your Allgood representative. He’ll inspect your home and yard and prepare a customized plan, including applying larvacide to noted breeding sites and adulticide to harborage areas. Throughout the summer, until mosquito season ends in October, your Allgood representative will visit every month to ensure your yard remains mosquito free.

Second, employ your own prevention methods. Use insect repellent that contains DEET and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Also keep all doors (including garage doors) shut and check window and door screens to ensure they fit properly and don’t have holes. If you have standing water from birdbaths, wading pools, etc. replace the water at least once a week. Also clean roof gutters and downspouts regularly. Weekly lawn maintenance will also help cut the mosquito population – keep bushes and shrubs trimmed, the lawn mowed and eliminate any unneeded vegetation, weeds and brush.
